Margarita 101

One of my favorite margarita bibles is Kim Haasarud’s 101 Margaritas. I actually refer to it as “Margarita 101.” Many times I can just sit and drool over her recipes as I flip the pages. It’s been a long day, so tonight I’m giving her Grapefruit Margarita a try:
Grapefruit Margarita
- 2 ounces tequila
- 2 ounces freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
- 1 ounce Cointreau
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
- 1/2 grapefruit slice for garnish
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a glass. Salting the rim is optional.
If I was going to put it in the Margaritarator. I will mix a pitcher of margis by keeping the 2-2-1-1/2 ratio, then add it to the Margaritaville pitcher 13 ounce fill line.
Bottoms Up: I used Odwalla Grapefruit juice, Don Julio Reposado and a meyer lemon. I salted the rim, but I like salt. If you like the tart, sour taste of grapefruit juice, you will like this mix. Haasarud recommends using pummelos to make the best grapefruit margis.
